PERSONALITY
Emily is very much an average teenager and she is still very much trying to figure out who she is exactly. It doesn't help that she accidentally found out that her best friend is The Chosen One™ who's got powers and a magical destiny to save the world, which she's already done a few times already and they haven't even graduated (and the irony that her friend is named Destiny isn't lost on her). For the most part Emily just wants to be a good person who survives long enough to graduate, even if she doesn't know what she's doing past that. She talks a lot, sometimes too much and always asks a ton of questions. She wants to know everything even if she doesn't fully understand or even retain all of that information (random useless information she's a pro in though).

She is very loyal to those closest to her, especially Destiny who she sees as a sister. Despite that Emily is terrified that one day Destiny will leave and forget about her. She feels she can't really compete with someone who is actually a hero who can do magic when she's barely passing math. Why would Destiny stay friends with her? In a way she feels inferior to everyone who has powers and skills to do with the supernatural. She's too normal and she feels out of place and constantly puts herself down for that. Not that she'll ever admit to how she feels - Emily internalizes most things because she doesn't want to burden people with her own feelings. She will make jokes,

Emily is a good person but like a lot of teenagers she's lost trying to find her place in the world. Who is she supposed to be when her friend saves the world? How is she supposed to relate to everything when she's seen the world almost end? What does she do with herself when she feels like she's got nothing to give the world?

HISTORY
Most of Emily's early life is unremarkable. She is an only child raised by a single father. For a long time, her dad didn't know what to do with her, especially when Emily was younger. Emily herself was always awkward around her dad - as much as she loved him. He took her to see a wrestling show because it was what he liked as a kid and Emily fell in love with it. This is what the two really began to bond over and eventually led to them becoming very close.

Emily met her best friend (and eventual saviour of the universe) Destiny in elementary school. Destiny had just moved to the area and Emily was going through a phase of wanting to wear a luchador mask everywhere. Destiny caught some of their classmates bullying Emily for it and the two instantly became best friends.

**MORE BORING STUFF HERE LOL**

In high school, things began to change. Destiny started to become moodier and would ditch plans with Emily at the last minute. Being a teenager, Emily didn't handle this very well and when she went to confront her best friend ended up coming face to face with a demon who Destiny killed. It was then that Emily was introduced to the supernatural world - magic, demons, monsters all of it existed. They are then confronted by the magic group that Destiny has been working with, with some of the advocating for Emily's memories to be erased. Destiny bargains with them that if they want her to save the universe then she needs her best friend to be with her.

And so Emily is thrown into a whole new world... and I'm still figuring the rest of it out.

RANDOM
  • blah blah
  • NOTE
Emily is heavily inspired by the best friend trope often found in ya media. I got the idea for her after watching this video and since then she has been evolving and becoming more fleshed out. While I'm still trying to figure out aspects of her character at the core she should always remain the same.

I'm hoping to one day write Emily's story as a ya novel.
